How to connect Claude Desktop to quizquiz.co
Claude Desktop can create quizzes directly on quizquiz.co while you chat. Ask it to generate pub quiz questions, and instead of just giving you text to copy and paste, it'll save them straight to your account as a ready-to-play quiz.
This works through something called the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard that Anthropic released in late 2024. MCP lets Claude connect to external services and take actions on your behalf.
What you'll need
- Claude Desktop installed on your Mac or Windows PC
- A quizquiz.co account (free tier works fine)
- About 2 minutes
Setting it up
The setup involves adding a small configuration file that tells Claude Desktop where to find the quizquiz.co server.
If you've never set up an MCP server before
Open your terminal and run this single command:
Mac:
mkdir -p ~/Library/Application\ Support/Claude && echo '{"mcpServers":{"quizquiz":{"command":"npx","args":["-y","mcp-remote","https://quizquiz-mcp.quizquiz.workers.dev/sse"]}}}' > ~/Library/Application\ Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
Windows (PowerShell):
New-Item -ItemType Directory -Force -Path "$env:APPDATA\Claude"; Set-Content -Path "$env:APPDATA\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json" -Value '{"mcpServers":{"quizquiz":{"command":"npx","args":["-y","mcp-remote","https://quizquiz-mcp.quizquiz.workers.dev/sse"]}}}'
That's it. Restart Claude Desktop and skip to the next section.
If you already have MCP servers configured
You know the drill. Open your claude_desktop_config.json and add this to your mcpServers object:
"quizquiz": {
"command": "npx",
"args": ["-y", "mcp-remote", "https://quizquiz-mcp.quizquiz.workers.dev/sse"]
}
Your full config might look something like this:
{
"mcpServers": {
"some-other-server": {
"command": "...",
"args": ["..."]
},
"quizquiz": {
"command": "npx",
"args": ["-y", "mcp-remote", "https://quizquiz-mcp.quizquiz.workers.dev/sse"]
}
}
}
Restart Claude Desktop after saving.
Connecting your account
The first time you ask Claude to create a quiz, it'll prompt you to log in to quizquiz.co. This is a one-time authentication that links your account.
- Ask Claude something like "Create a quiz about European capitals with 5 questions"
- A browser window will open asking you to sign in to quizquiz.co
- Sign in with Google or your email
- You'll be redirected back and Claude will confirm the connection
From then on, Claude can create quizzes on your account without asking again.
Using it
Once connected, just ask Claude to create quizzes naturally:
- "Make a 10-question pub quiz about 90s movies"
- "Create a science quiz for kids, multiple choice"
- "Generate a hard geography quiz with questions about capital cities"
Claude will create the quiz and give you two links: one to preview it, and one to edit it on quizquiz.co. You can then tweak the questions, add more rounds, or run it as a live presentation.
Tips for better quizzes
Claude is good at following instructions, so be specific about what you want:
- Difficulty: "Make it challenging for adults" vs "Keep it easy for a family quiz"
- Format: "Use multiple choice" or "Open answer questions only"
- Topics: "Focus on British history" or "Mix of sports, music, and general knowledge"
- Quantity: "Give me 20 questions across 2 rounds"
The more context you give, the better the quiz will be.
Troubleshooting
Claude says it can't find the quizquiz tool
Make sure you've restarted Claude Desktop after editing the config file. Also check that the JSON syntax is valid (missing commas are a common culprit).
The authentication window doesn't appear
Try asking Claude to create a quiz again. If it still doesn't work, check that your browser isn't blocking popups from Claude Desktop.
Quizzes aren't appearing in your account
Make sure you're signed into the same quizquiz.co account that you authenticated with. If you have multiple accounts, you might have connected the wrong one.
What's next
Once your quiz is created, you can:
- Run it as a live presentation with your friends
- Edit questions and add picture or music rounds
- Share the link so others can play remotely
The integration currently supports creating new quizzes. Features like editing existing quizzes or listing your quizzes from Claude are on the roadmap.
ChatGPT users: There's also a custom GPT for quizquiz.co that works the same way. Just open it and start asking for quiz questions.
