Pub quiz in Liverpool: where to play
Liverpool's quiz scene is dominated by one format. A large share of the city's weekly quizzes are run by the same host network and played on your phone rather than on paper, with a heavy lean towards music and retro rounds. That's worth knowing before you pick one, because several of the nights below are more similar to each other than their venues suggest.
It's also worth being straight about sourcing. Most Liverpool pubs don't publish their own quiz details, so much of what follows comes from the quiz operator's live schedule and from venue-managed listings rather than the pubs' own websites. We've said which is which. Two well-known quizzes appear to have paused in the last couple of months, so check before you travel.
Newington Temple
RopewalksA pub from the mid-1800s restored to its Victorian form, tucked down a narrow side street off Bold Street, with craft beer, bar snacks and a separate lounge. This is the one quiz in the list where the pub's own website confirms the quiz and the prizes, which is why it leads. It doesn't state a start time, and other listings disagree between 7pm and 7:30pm, so aim for seven.
Ma Boyle's Alehouse & Eatery
Pier HeadA Victorian alehouse under the Tower Building on the waterfront, trading since the 1870s and popular with the business district's after-work crowd. Cask ale and proper food. The quiz details here come from the operator's live schedule and a venue-managed listing rather than the pub's own site, which we couldn't reach.
The Crafty Swine
Smithdown RoadA craft beer bar on the Smithdown Road strip, well established with the student and young professional crowd in the south of the city. The food bank fundraising is long-running and genuinely unusual among weekly quizzes. These details come from a single venue-managed listing rather than the bar's own page.
Tempest on Tithebarn
commercial districtA bar close to Moorfields and Exchange Flags, with a start time pitched squarely at people heading out straight from the office rather than going home first. It's the earliest quiz in this list. The two listings we found agree on the day, time and prizes but not the entry fee, so bring a couple of pounds.
The Fulwood Arms
AigburthA large roadside local on Aigburth Road, a short walk from Sefton Park and the Lark Lane end of the neighbourhood. A community pub rather than a craft beer destination, and the better option if you want somewhere unpretentious. Listed by the quiz operator and a venue-managed listing, not the pub itself.
The Elephant Pub & Bakehouse
WooltonA 1930s pub in the middle of Woolton village, food-led with seasonal menus, Sunday roasts and imported Belgian and German bottled beers. It feels like a village local rather than a city pub, which is the appeal. Two independent listings confirm the Tuesday quiz but neither is the pub's own page, and nobody publishes the entry fee.
Lost In Lark Lane
Lark LaneA bar on Lark Lane, the independent food and drink street beside Sefton Park. The quiz is the phone-based format with a lot of music in it, and the pizza prize comes from a business a few doors down. This is the only Sunday option we could verify, and it rests on a single venue-managed listing.
Something different: themed quiz nights
Camp and Furnace in the Baltic Triangle runs one-off themed quizzes rather than a weekly pub quiz, with past nights built around Harry Potter, Disney, Friends and Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Doors are usually 6:30pm with the quiz starting at 8pm, teams are normally two to six people, and tickets go through Skiddle in advance. Their own events page lists what's coming up. It's a large warehouse event space rather than a pub, so treat it as a night out rather than a drop-in.
Gaps worth knowing about
We found no verifiable weekly pub quiz in the Baltic Triangle or the Georgian Quarter. Quizzes at the Pen Factory on Hope Street and Tavern Co on Smithdown Road are widely listed but both show their most recent event as a past date with nothing scheduled, so they look paused rather than current. Every quiz we could confirm falls on a Monday, Tuesday or Sunday.
