Ratzeputz, Neukölln

Ratzeputz on Weserstraße runs "More Questions Than Answers" every Sunday at 7pm, and it's built up enough of a reputation to be genuinely hard to get a seat at. There's no table reservation system: it's first come, first served, so turning up early matters if you want to actually sit down. Entry is €10 a head, but it's not quite what it sounds like: €1 goes straight into that week's jackpot (a minimum of €100, rolling over if nobody wins it), and the other €9 becomes a drink deposit you spend at the bar during the night rather than a straight cover charge. The deposit can't be refunded as cash, so you're effectively paying for drinks up front either way.

The Castle Berlin, Mitte

The Castle on Invalidenstraße is a modern pub with Guinness on tap, a decent craft beer list and a heated beer garden, and it runs a bilingual quiz night every Monday from 8pm to 10.30pm in the middle and back rooms. The site describes it as "in English & German", which makes it a reasonable option if your team is a mixed group of German speakers and people who aren't. Reservations open at 10am on the day itself through the venue's website, and given it's a weekly fixture in a fairly small space, it's worth booking rather than turning up on spec.

Bar Degendorff, near Bersarinplatz, hosts a Let's Get Quizzical night every Thursday at 7.30pm. It's a bilingual quiz, questions in both English and German, and stragglers without a full team get folded into a mixed group rather than turned away, so it's a reasonably friendly one to show up to alone. Worth flagging: this schedule comes from Let's Get Quizzical's own site rather than the bar's, since Bar Degendorff doesn't appear to run its own events page confirming it independently.

Alte Turnhalle, Friedrichshain

The same Let's Get Quizzical team runs a second night at Alte Turnhalle, near Ostkreuz station, on Sundays at 7pm, again mixing English and German questions across geography, pop culture, music and art. As with Bar Degendorff, this comes from the quiz organiser's own site rather than the venue's: Alte Turnhalle's own website is built around its brunch and beer garden and doesn't mention the quiz, so it's worth double-checking the date is still live before you set off, particularly since Sunday-night hospitality schedules are the first thing to quietly change.
