Pub quiz nights in Prague: where to play

Mention a "pub quiz" to a Czech local and you might get a blank look. Search in Czech and you'll find "kvíz" or "hospodský kvíz" instead, usually run for a Czech-speaking room. The English-language quiz scene in Prague is a different, smaller circuit, built around the city's expat bars, hostels and a handful of foreign-owned restaurants that cater to its large population of international students, long-term expats and people just passing through. It's nowhere near the size of London's scene, but it's genuinely there, and a couple of these nights have been running for years. Below are the ones we could actually verify are still going, checked against each venue's own website rather than an old listings page.

A quick note before you head out: quiz nights are one of the more fragile fixtures in hospitality anywhere, and Prague's expat bar scene has more turnover than most. A quiz that's run every week for years can quietly stop the moment a manager or regular host moves on, and websites don't always get updated to reflect it. We checked each of the following against the venue's own site as of publishing, but that's a snapshot, not a promise. Call ahead or check the venue's own page or social media before you commit an evening to it, especially if you're crossing town for it.

The Globe Bookstore & Café, Nové Město

The Globe, an English-language bookshop and café just off the Vltava in Nové Město, bills its Wednesday quiz as "Prague's longest running English Language Quiz," and its own events page lists it as a repeating weekly fixture from 18:30 to 22:00. Entry is 100 CZK per person, teams are capped at eight, and the venue recommends reserving a table in advance by phone given how long the night has been drawing a crowd. It's a proper general knowledge quiz with games and prizes worked in between rounds, and the venue's bookshop-café setting makes it a calmer atmosphere than a sports pub, which suits teams who actually want to hear the questions.

Clown and Bard Hostel, Žižkov

Clown and Bard is a long-running party hostel in Žižkov, and its own events page confirms a weekly English pub quiz every Thursday at 19:00. Entry is 100 CZK, payable in cash or by Revolut, and the venue describes it as fast-paced with brain-teasing rounds and prizes that include bar vouchers, shots and champagne for the winning team. Being based in a hostel, it draws a young, international, largely backpacker and long-term-traveller crowd rather than a settled local regulars' table, so it's a good option if you're new in the city and want to meet people as much as answer questions.

Third Coast Pizza, an American-owned Detroit-style pizza spot in Žižkov, runs its "Under the Sauce Pub Quiz" every Wednesday, with doors from 19:00 and the quiz itself starting sharp at 19:15, running through to around 21:30. Entry is 100 CZK per person. Worth flagging transparently: the venue's own Czech-language page describes the quiz mostly in Czech, though there's a separate English version of the same page, and it's been listed among Prague's English-friendly weekly events by the city's English-language expat press. Expect a genuinely mixed, bilingual crowd rather than an English-only room, which honestly fits Prague's expat quiz scene as a whole.

Three venues is a short list next to what you'd find in a bigger expat city, and it's worth being upfront about why. Several other names keep coming up when you search for Prague pub quizzes, among them the James Joyce Irish Pub, Beckett's Irish Pub, Sally O'Brien's and Bohemia Board & Brews, but we couldn't independently confirm a current day and time for any of them on the venue's own site or social page, so we've left them out rather than send you somewhere on the strength of an old blog post.
