Hello quizmanics! Happy new year to you all. Here are ten questions from the past week to keep your quiz nights fresh and topical.

Q1: Bruno Mars announced his first solo album in nearly a decade this week. What is the name of the album?

Ans: The Romantic

The album drops February 27th and marks his first solo release since 24K Magic in 2016. The lead single "I Just Might" came out on January 9th.

Q2: There has been a lot of discussion about the future of Greenland recently. But to which country does Greenland currently belong?

Ans: Denmark

More precisely, Greenland is part of this countries kingdom but operates as an autonomous territory with self-governance over most domestic affairs. It gained home rule in 1979 and expanded self-government in 2009.

Q3: Which Middle Eastern country has erupted in protests over the past two weeks, initially starting on December 28th 2025?

Ans: Iran

The protests began in the countries capital's bazaar over the collapse of the currency and soaring food prices. They've since spread to over 100 cities across all 31 provinces, becoming the largest demonstrations since 2022.

Q4: The Hershey Bears, an American Hockey League team, host an annual Teddy Bear Toss game where fans throw stuffed toys onto the ice for charity. How many plush toys were collected this year?

Ans: 81,796

The 25th annual toss on January 4th benefited over 60 local charities. Louie Belpedio scored the goal that triggered the avalanche of stuffed animals. The all-time record remains last year's haul of 102,343.

Q5: What was the (slightly inappropriate) nickname given by hockey fans to the January 7th NHL game between the Edmonton Oilers and the Nashville Predators?

Ans: "The Diddy Bowl"

Fans on social media couldn't resist the joke given the team names. The Oilers won the game, though neither team has lived up to expectations this season.

Q6: This week in history: January 11th 1878 marked the first time a certain everyday beverage was delivered to customers in glass bottles. What was it?

Ans: Milk

According to Britannica, the Alexander Campbell Company in Brooklyn, New York pioneered home delivery of this beverage in glass bottles. Before this, it was sold from large containers into whatever vessel the customer brought.

Q7: This week in history: Amelia Earhart, one of the world's most celebrated aviators, made the first successful solo flight from which other US state to California on January 11th 1935? Hint: It covered about 2,400 miles.

Ans: Hawaii

Earhart thus became the first person to fly solo across any part of the Pacific Ocean. She completed the journey in about 18 hours.

Q8: This week in history: Which Scottish comedian became the host of The Late Late Show on January 3rd 2005?

Ans: Craig Ferguson

He took over from Craig Kilborn and hosted the show until 2014. He was known for his freewheeling style and conversations with his robot skeleton sidekick, Geoff Peterson.

Q9: At CES 2026 this week, which toy company held their first ever keynote presentation at the tech conference, revealing a "smart brick" with a tiny computer inside?

Ans: LEGO

The smart brick uses NFC technology to bring LEGO sets to life with lights and sounds. It's a standard LEGO brick size but packed with electronics.

Q10: Figure skater Amber Glenn set a new record at the US Figure Skating Championships this week. What song did she perform her record-breaking short program to?

Ans: "Like a Prayer" by Madonna

Glenn delivered the highest women's short program score ever recorded, putting her in prime position to represent the US at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina.
