Ciao struggling pub quiz masters! Awards season is in full swing, there's geopolitical drama over an icy island, and tennis legends are refusing to retire. Here are ten questions from the past week to keep your quizzes topical.

Q1: The 83rd Golden Globe Awards aired this week. Which comedian hosted the ceremony for the second year in a row?

Ans: Nikki Glaser

They returned to host after their well-received debut last year. Their opening monologue took jabs at CBS, the Justice Department, and Warner Bros.

Q2: The Golden Globes introduced a new category this year for "Best Podcast". Who won the inaugural award?

Ans: Amy Poehler

His/her podcast launched just 10 months ago but quickly became a hit featuring guests like Tina Fey, Martin Short, and Rashida Jones. In their acceptance speech, they quipped: "I have great respect for everyone I am nominated with. I am big fans of all of you, except for NPR: just a bunch of celebs phoning it in."

Q3: Which British miniseries swept the television categories at the Golden Globes, winning all four awards it was nominated for?

Ans: Adolescence

The series went 4-for-4 in its categories, making it the biggest TV winner of the night.

Q4: Timothée Chalamet won Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy at the Golden Globes this week. In which film did he play the title role?

Chalamet took home the award in a competitive category. On the drama side, Wagner Moura won Best Actor for "The Secret Agent".

Q5: There has been a lot of talk about Donald Trump's future plans for Greenland and we've probably all learned more about Greenland in the last two weeks than we have in our lives before. So, what is the capital of Greenland?

Ans: Nuuk

A recent rally in Greenland's capital drew nearly a quarter of the city's population, making it the island's biggest protest ever. Demonstrators waved Greenlandic flags and gathered outside the American consulate.

Q6: Which European country adopted the euro on January 1st 2026?

Ans: Bulgaria

The country replaced its former currency, the lev, after several delays. The conversion rate was set at 1.95583 lev per euro, and both currencies were accepted during a one-month transition period.

Q7: At age 45, Venus Williams became the oldest woman to compete in the singles main draw at which tennis Grand Slam this week?

Ans: The Australian Open

Williams broke the record previously held by Japan's Kimiko Date from 2015. Despite leading 4-0 in the third set, she eventually lost to Olga Danilovic in a dramatic three-setter.

Q8: Which country won the United Cup tennis tournament in Sydney, claiming their first ever title after finishing as runners-up the past two years?

Ans: Poland

The team, led by Iga Swiatek and Hubert Hurkacz, defeated Switzerland in a final that went to a deciding mixed doubles match. Hurkacz was particularly impressive, returning from a seven-month injury layoff.

Q9: NASA's Artemis II spacecraft arrived at Launch Pad 39B this week ahead of its mission around the Moon. Which astronaut will become the first person of colour to travel beyond low Earth orbit when the mission launches?

Ans: Victor Glover

Glover will serve as pilot on the mission, scheduled for launch no earlier than February 6th. The crew also includes Christina Koch, who will become the first woman to travel to the Moon, and Canadian Jeremy Hansen, the first non-American.

Q10: New York City was sworn in its new mayor on January 1st. Zohran Mamdani made history as the city's first Muslim mayor and, at 34, its youngest in over a century. He's also the first NYC mayor born on which continent?

Ans: Africa

Mamdani was born in Kampala, Uganda, to an academic father and filmmaker mother Mira Nair. He was sworn in at the historic City Hall subway station by Bernie Sanders, taking his oath on two copies of the Quran.
