Pub quiz nights in Bristol: where to play

Bristol's quiz scene is spread right across the city rather than concentrated in the centre, and it leans heavily towards the start of the week. Everything below was checked against the venue's own listing where one exists, and where it wasn't we've said so in the entry itself. Quiz nights move, pause and get cancelled for bank holidays, so it's always worth a look at the pub's social media before you travel.

The Mothers' Ruin and the Super Quiz

Old City
Venue page
When
Tuesdays, 8pm
Quick info
£1 entry; free half-time fries; one prize pot shared across four pubs; booking strongly recommended

This is the most ambitious quiz format in the city. The same quiz runs simultaneously at the Mothers' Ruin on St Nicholas Street, The Crown, The Colosseum and the Greyhound in Fishponds, and a single winning team takes the combined pot from all four. There's a separate bonus game with £250 on it. The pubs themselves say it books up most weeks, so turning up on spec on a Tuesday is a gamble.

The Merchant of Cotham

Cotham Hill
Venue page
When
Wednesdays, 8pm
Quick info
£2 per person; maximum team of six; walk-ins welcome but arrive early

A pub, microbrewery and kitchen brewing its own unpasteurised beer on site, with rounds covering music, sport, geography and general knowledge. Worth knowing that this was Brewhouse & Kitchen until recently, so older listings elsewhere still use the old name and give a 7:30pm start. The current start time is 8pm.

Flyer Bristol

Bishopston
Venue page
When
Mondays, 7:30pm
Quick info
£2 cash per person; teams of up to eight; bank holidays can affect it, so check their Instagram

A big traditional pub on the Gloucester Road strip, reopened after a refurbishment in late 2024, with a good range of local ciders and real ales and a patio garden. The quiz details come from the venue's managed listing rather than its own website, and there are two conflicting entries for it online, so the 7:30pm start is the one to go by.

King Street Brew House

Welsh Back
Venue page
When
Sundays, 7pm
Quick info
Teams of up to five; £50 bar tab for the winners; over 18s only

A harbourside pub with its own microbrewery, where the quiz follows on from Sunday roasts served until 8pm. These details come from the venue's managed listing rather than its own site, and older write-ups elsewhere quote a different team size and prize, so treat anything you read about a £100 tab with caution.

Barbara's Bier Haus

Canon's Road
Venue page
When
Sundays, 8pm
Quick info
Answers submitted by phone rather than on paper; booking ahead holds your table for the night

An après-ski themed bar on the harbourside, complete with steins, pizzas and music between rounds. It's deliberately not a traditional quiz: answers go in on your phone and the format is built to be loud. You can play solo or as a table. Prize details on their site appear to be shared across their other venues, so don't count on a specific one.

The Port of Call

Clifton
Venue page
When
Sundays, 8pm
Quick info
Sunday roasts alongside the quiz; entry fee and prizes not published

A classic two-room pub near the top of Whiteladies Road, with two real fires, up to six cask ales and a sheltered beer garden. We couldn't find a website for the pub itself, so the quiz is listed here on the strength of a CAMRA entry surveyed in person in early 2026 rather than the venue's own listing.

The Spotted Cow

Bedminster
Venue page
When
Tuesday evenings, start time not confirmed
Quick info
Long-running quiz; no published entry fee; worth ringing ahead for the start time

A North Street fixture for over 200 years, with a refurbishment that uncovered the old George's Brewery lettering on the front, five rotating beers from local independents and a big walled garden with a heated marquee. As with the Port of Call, the quiz comes from a CAMRA listing rather than the pub's own page, and while the Tuesday slot is well established the start time we could find traces back several years, so check before you set off.

What we couldn't confirm

A few Bristol quizzes come up constantly in searches but didn't stand up when we went looking for a current source. The Coronation in Southville and the Chelsea Inn in Easton both have quizzes listed, but on entries last surveyed in 2023 and 2025 respectively. Steam at Clifton Down publishes an enthusiastic page about its quiz, including prices and prizes, without ever saying which day of the week it runs.

That leaves a genuine gap in south and east Bristol here. If you know of a current quiz in Southville or Easton, it's worth ringing the pub to confirm before relying on anything you read online, including this page.

If none of these fit your week, build your own with our free quiz creator and run one wherever you like.

Frequently Asked Questions

Tuesday and Sunday have the most options. Tuesday has the four-venue Super Quiz plus a long-running Bedminster quiz, and Sunday has several harbourside and Clifton choices. We couldn't verify a single Thursday, Friday or Saturday quiz in the city.
For the Tuesday Super Quiz, yes. The pubs running it say it books up most weeks. Most of the others are walk-in, though arriving early is sensible for the busier ones on Cotham Hill and Gloucester Road.
Almost certainly, but we couldn't verify current listings for Southville or Easton against a venue's own page or a recent survey. The Spotted Cow on North Street is the one Bedminster quiz we could stand behind, and even then only the day rather than the start time.
