Pub quiz nights in Dublin: where to play
For a city with this much pub in it, Dublin's weekly quiz scene is smaller than you'd expect, and it clusters at the start and the end of the week. Everything below was checked against the venue's own page where one exists, and where it wasn't we've said so in the entry itself. Quizzes move, pause for bank holidays and quietly stop, so a glance at the pub's social media before you travel is never wasted.
J.T. Pim's
South Great George's StreetA big multi-floor bar on South Great George's Street, with the Gin Rummy cocktail bar downstairs. The quiz is hosted by Star DJs and runs on the SpeedQuizzing app, so there's nothing to write down. One thing to know: the quiz operator's listing gives an 8pm start, while the pub's own Instagram posts have been saying 8:30pm, so give yourself the earlier time if you want to be safe.
The Circular
RialtoThe only quiz on this page you need a ticket for, and the only one where the venue publishes a waitlist. The Circular is a multi-room pub on the South Circular Road with a pizza kitchen and a front terrace, and the quiz is run by Quiz Host Ireland rather than the bar staff. Tickets are non-refundable. If the booking page shows a waitlist, the pub asks you to email with your team size rather than chance it on the night.
McSorley's
RanelaghA gastropub and late bar on Sandford Road that has been running the same Thursday slot for years. The pub promotes it week to week on its own channels, which is a better sign of a quiz still being alive than most listings. Entry is free and the questions are read by a host rather than played through an app.
McGowans
PhibsboroughThe north side option, on Phibsboro Road near Dalymount Park. It's another SpeedQuizzing night, so answers go in on your phone. The pub takes bookings up to 9:30pm on Sundays and walk-ins are fine, which makes it one of the easier ones to decide on at the last minute.
Disndat
Dame CourtTucked on Dame Court, a minute from Dame Street and Temple Bar, which makes this the city centre Sunday option. First prize is a round for the table, second is a round of shots, and third gets a round too. It runs on the SpeedQuizzing app, and you can order Pi Pizza and toasties while you play. Worth repeating the venue's own caveat: there's no quiz on bank holiday weekends.
What we couldn't confirm
Dublin has a Tuesday gap in this list, and it isn't because nothing runs. The Hill in Ranelagh is the one that comes up repeatedly, with its own Facebook posts advertising a Tuesday 8pm quiz, but the pub's website makes no mention of a quiz at all and we couldn't load a current first-party page saying it still runs. Treat it as promising rather than certain, and ring ahead on (01) 5617455.
Three others didn't stand up. Toner's on Lower Baggot Street appears on one aggregator as a Tuesday table quiz, with no trace of it anywhere on the pub's own channels. The Fourth Corner on Patrick Street has a Wednesday listing with the quiz operator but nothing confirming it from the venue. BrewDog's Trivia Tuesdays page is still live, but every date on it is from August and September, which usually means a series that has finished rather than one you can turn up to.
If none of these fit your week, build your own with our free quiz creator and run one wherever you like.
