Pub quiz nights in Frankfurt: where to play in English

Frankfurt's pub quiz week is basically Monday, with one Sunday exception. That's not a shortage of pubs, it's a shortage of quizzes: for a city with this many international residents, there are far fewer weekly quiz nights publishing their details than you'd find in Dublin or Vienna. This is a deliberately short list. Everything on it was checked against the venue's own page, and the ones that didn't survive that check are named at the bottom rather than quietly included.

The Fox and Hound

When
Sundays, 7:30pm
Quick info
Run in English; limited seating, so reserve ahead; 13 beers on draught

The only non-Monday quiz we could verify, and the most straightforward option if English is what you're after. It's an English pub on Niedenau in Westend, serving British and international food, and its own site lists the Sunday quiz at 19:30. The pub is blunt about seating: there aren't many seats in the bar and they go quickly, so book. Teams have historically organised through the Frankfurt Pub Quiz Meetup group, though that group currently has no upcoming events listed, so treat the pub itself as the source of truth.

Irish Pub Bornheim

Berger Straße

When
Mondays, 8pm to 11pm
Quick info
Small room that fills up; reserve a table by email well ahead

A small, long-running Irish pub at the far end of Berger Straße in Alt Bornheim, which calls its own quiz the most popular in Frankfurt and has a decent claim to it. The thing to know is how far ahead tables get booked: regulars reserve weeks in advance, and the room is not big. Note that older write-ups put this quiz on a Thursday at 9pm. It has since moved to Monday evenings, so ignore anything that still says Thursday.

O'Dwyer's Irish Pub

Sachsenhausen
Venue site
When
Mondays, 8pm
Quick info
Free to play; sign-ups go up on the pub's Facebook page the day before; also runs beer pong on Thursdays

In the Alt Sachsenhausen pub quarter on Klappergasse, sharing its kitchen with Chubby's Burger. This is the hardest quiz in the city to research and one of the best known, which is a strange combination: the pub doesn't list the quiz anywhere online and its website is still HTTP-only, so the day and time here were confirmed directly rather than taken from a listing. Enough teams play it regularly that one of them runs its own Meetup group just to organise who's coming.

Waxy's Irish Pub

When
Mondays, sign-up from 7:30pm, quiz starts 8:30pm
Quick info
Hosted by Lucas; book a table through the pub's site

A large Irish bar just off the Zeil, with most of its listings given over to live sport: fantasy football, Bundesliga and a Formula 1 brunch. The hour between sign-up and the first question is deliberate: you register your team, order food and settle in. The pub's quiz page is built almost entirely out of images, so the times here come from the page's own description and are corroborated by a local press roundup of Frankfurt quiz nights from August.

What we couldn't confirm

Two leads didn't make it. The Oost Bar at the 25hours Hotel The Goldman runs a good pub quiz with teams of three to five and free but ticketed entry, except it's occasional rather than weekly and the dates jump between Wednesdays and Fridays, so check the hotel's events page rather than planning around it. A bar called Porrum was advertised as hosting an English quiz on the first Tuesday of the month plus the Wednesday after, on a single social post from early in the year and nowhere else.

Café Koz on the Bockenheim campus and Café Rabe on Jordanstraße both run genuine, well-attended fortnightly quizzes. They're in German, and they're community and student nights rather than pub quizzes, so they sit outside what this page is for. They're worth knowing about if your German is up to it.

If none of these fit your week, build your own with our free quiz creator and run one wherever you like.

Frequently Asked Questions

Monday, overwhelmingly. Three Irish pubs run quizzes on Monday evenings, two of them starting at 8pm and the third half an hour later, in Bornheim, Sachsenhausen and just off the Zeil. The one night that isn't a Monday is Sunday at The Fox and Hound in Westend.
The Fox and Hound is an English pub and runs its quiz in English. The three Irish pubs draw a mixed crowd and none of them publishes a language, so expect English or a mix. The city's other quizzes, including the student and community nights in Bockenheim, run in German.
There genuinely aren't many weekly ones, at least not any that publish their details. We found four we could stand behind and a handful more that appear only on aggregators or in old social posts. For a city of Frankfurt's size and international population, that's a thin scene, and three of the four land on the same night.
