How to connect Claude to quizquiz.co

Claude can create quizzes directly on quizquiz.co while you chat. Ask it for a set of pub quiz questions and instead of handing you text to copy and paste, it saves them straight to your account as a ready-to-play quiz.

This works through the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard Anthropic released in late 2024 that lets Claude connect to outside services and take actions for you.

Setup used to mean editing a JSON config file in a terminal. It doesn't any more. quizquiz.co is in Claude's connector directory, so adding it is a couple of clicks.

What you'll need

  • Claude, on desktop or the web
  • A quizquiz.co account (the free tier is fine)
  • About a minute

Setting it up

Claude calls these "connectors", and quizquiz.co is listed in the directory, so there's nothing to copy or configure.

Open the quizquiz.co listing in Claude's directory and add it from there. You can also find it by going to Customize > Connectors and searching the directory for quizquiz.

Adding it by URL instead

If you'd rather point Claude at the server yourself, or you're on a version that doesn't show the directory, the manual route still works:

  1. Go to Customize > Connectors
  2. Click + Add, then Add custom connector
  3. Name it quizquiz (this is just the label you'll see in the list)
  4. Paste this as the server URL, then click Continue:
https://quizquiz-mcp.quizquiz.workers.dev/mcp
  1. Claude detects the authentication settings on its own. Leave them as they are and click Continue
  2. Under OAuth client, keep Use Claude's published identity (Recommended)
  3. Click Add

To use it in a conversation, hit + at the bottom left of the chat, choose Connectors, and switch quizquiz on.

One thing worth knowing: on the free Claude plan you only get one custom connector, so if you've already added something else you'll have to pick. Paid plans don't have that limit. On Team and Enterprise, an owner has to add the connector before members can enable it.

If you don't see a Connectors option

Older versions of Claude Desktop need the config file route instead. It uses a small shim called mcp-remote to bridge the remote server to a local one.

Mac:

mkdir -p ~/Library/Application\ Support/Claude && echo '{"mcpServers":{"quizquiz":{"command":"npx","args":["-y","mcp-remote","https://quizquiz-mcp.quizquiz.workers.dev/sse"]}}}' > ~/Library/Application\ Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json

Windows (PowerShell):

New-Item -ItemType Directory -Force -Path "$env:APPDATA\Claude"; Set-Content -Path "$env:APPDATA\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json" -Value '{"mcpServers":{"quizquiz":{"command":"npx","args":["-y","mcp-remote","https://quizquiz-mcp.quizquiz.workers.dev/sse"]}}}'

Careful with that first command if you already have MCP servers set up, because it overwrites the whole file. In that case open claude_desktop_config.json yourself and add this inside your existing mcpServers object:

"quizquiz": {
  "command": "npx",
  "args": ["-y", "mcp-remote", "https://quizquiz-mcp.quizquiz.workers.dev/sse"]
}

Restart Claude Desktop after saving. If you're on this route, updating Claude and switching to a connector is worth the two minutes: no Node, no shim, no file to break.

Connecting your account

The first time you ask for a quiz, you'll be asked to sign in to quizquiz.co. It's a one-time thing that links the two accounts.

  1. Ask for something like "Create a quiz about European capitals with 5 questions"
  2. A browser window opens asking you to sign in
  3. Sign in with Google, or with your email address and password
  4. You land back in Claude and it confirms the connection

After that it can create quizzes on your account without asking again.

Using it

Just ask, in whatever words come naturally:

  • "Make a 10-question pub quiz about 90s movies"
  • "Create a science quiz for kids, multiple choice"
  • "Generate a hard geography quiz about capital cities"

You get two links back: one to preview the quiz, one to edit it on quizquiz.co. From there you can tweak questions, add rounds, or run it as a live presentation.

Tips for better quizzes

Claude follows instructions well, so being specific pays off:

  • Difficulty: "Make it challenging for adults" lands very differently from "keep it easy for a family quiz"
  • Format: Say "multiple choice" or "open answer only" if you care
  • Topics: "Focus on British history" beats "make it interesting"
  • Quantity: "20 questions across 2 rounds" gets you the structure, not just a list

Vague prompts get generic questions. If you want a steer on what actually works in a room, we've written up how to run a great pub quiz and a pile of quiz round ideas.

Troubleshooting

Claude says it can't find the quizquiz tool. Check the connector is toggled on for that conversation, under + then Connectors. If you used the config file route, make sure you restarted Claude Desktop and that the JSON is valid (a missing comma is the usual culprit).

The sign-in window doesn't appear. Ask for a quiz again. If nothing happens, check your browser isn't blocking popups from Claude.

Quizzes aren't showing up in your account. You're probably signed into a different quizquiz.co account from the one you authorised. Easy to do if you have more than one.

It worked yesterday and now it doesn't. The connection can expire. Remove the connector and add it again, or ask Claude to reconnect.

What's next

Once the quiz exists you can run it as a live presentation, add picture or music rounds, or share the link so people can play remotely.

The integration creates new quizzes and can list the ones you already have, so "what quizzes do I have?" works in the chat. Editing an existing quiz from the chat isn't supported yet, that one's still on the list.

ChatGPT users: quizquiz.co works there too, though the setup is mid-change because OpenAI is retiring custom GPTs in favour of plugins. Our guide to connecting ChatGPT covers what works today and what's coming.

Short on questions rather than setup? Our quiz of the year and 50 best pub quiz questions are a decent starting point, and you can paste any of them into Claude to build the quiz for you.

Frequently asked questions

MCP is an open protocol developed by Anthropic that lets AI assistants like Claude connect to external tools and services. It allows Claude to take actions on your behalf, like creating quizzes on quizquiz.co, rather than just providing text responses.
The quizquiz.co integration can create quizzes on your account and list the ones you already have. It can't delete anything, change an existing quiz, or reach other parts of your account. Nothing happens until you sign in and authorise it yourself.
No. The quizquiz.co connector works on any Claude account, including the free tier, and on both the web and the desktop app. Claude's free plan allows one custom connector, so if you've already added another you'll have to choose between them. Paid plans have no such limit.
Yes, though ChatGPT's setup is mid-change: OpenAI is retiring custom GPTs in favour of plugins, with 11 December 2026 given as the headline date. Our separate guide to connecting ChatGPT covers the route that works today and the one replacing it.
No. quizquiz.co is in Claude's connector directory, so you add it from the listing without copying anything. Pointing Claude at the server URL yourself still works and is documented here, as is the old config file route, which is only needed on older versions of Claude Desktop. If you go that way, add quizquiz to your existing mcpServers object rather than overwriting the file.
