Quiz calendar 2027: every themed quiz night, month by month

This is every date worth building a themed quiz around in 2027, month by month, with a link to a ready-made round for each one. The dates that move from year to year (Easter, Diwali, Ramadan and the rest) are checked for 2027, and there's a short section at the top for what's left of 2026.

A themed night pulls a bigger crowd than a regular one, but only if people hear about it in time. The useful thing about a calendar is seeing the date coming two or three weeks out, while there's still time to put a poster up.

Still to come in 2026

January 2027

  • Burns Night, Monday 25 January. It falls on a Monday this time, which suits a pub that wants a reason to fill a quiet night. Here are Burns Night quiz questions on the poet, the whisky and Scotland more widely.

January is otherwise quiet, and that's no bad thing. People are skint and staying in, so a regular quiz with a low entry fee often does better than a big themed one.

February 2027

February is the most crowded month on the calendar, and in 2027 several of the big dates land on the same weekend.

  • Six Nations, Friday 5 February to Saturday 13 March. Ireland v England opens the tournament on a Friday night, and the full fixture list is out already. Our Six Nations quiz questions cover the history and the records.
  • Chinese New Year, Saturday 6 February. The Year of the Goat (some say Sheep) begins. The Chinese New Year quiz questions cover the zodiac, the decorations and the legend of Nian.
  • Ramadan, from around 8 February. The exact start depends on the moon sighting, with Eid al-Fitr expected around 9 or 10 March. Our Ramadan quiz questions suit a community event after iftar, when people are fed and ready to sit down for an hour.
  • Valentine's Day and the Super Bowl, Sunday 14 February. Super Bowl LXI at SoFi Stadium is the first one ever scheduled on Valentine's Day. You can run a Valentine's Day quiz for couples, a Super Bowl quiz for the late-night crowd, or mix the two and enjoy the arguments.

March 2027

  • Mothering Sunday, Sunday 7 March. This is the UK date, three weeks before Easter. The Mother's Day quiz questions work for either this or the US date in May.
  • International Women's Day, Monday 8 March. Our International Women's Day quiz questions cover scientists, explorers and pioneers who were often overlooked at the time.
  • The Oscars and Selection Sunday, Sunday 14 March. The 99th Academy Awards and the start of March Madness fall on the same night. The Oscars quiz questions cover nearly a century of the ceremony, and the 2026 Best Picture nominees round is a good warm-up for anyone predicting this year's winners.
  • St Patrick's Day, Wednesday 17 March. Four days after the Six Nations finishes with Ireland v France in Dublin. The St Patrick's Day quiz questions pair well with a music round of Irish songs.
  • Spring equinox, Saturday 20 March. A loose excuse, but the spring quiz questions run from astronomy to hay fever and work any time in March or April.
  • Holi, Monday 22 March. Holika Dahan, the bonfire night, is the evening before. Our Holi quiz questions explain the colours as well as testing them.
  • Easter Sunday, 28 March. Easter is early this year, so Good Friday is 26 March. The Easter quiz questions suit a family afternoon as much as a pub.

April 2027

  • April Fools' Day, Thursday 1 April. The April Fools' quiz questions are all about famous hoaxes, which is a better idea than trying to prank a room full of teams.
  • Final Four, Saturday 3 and Monday 5 April. The college basketball finale is in Detroit this year.
  • Grand National, Saturday 10 April. The one horse race people who never watch horse racing watch. Our horse racing quiz questions cover the big races and the famous names.
  • Passover, from the evening of Wednesday 21 April. Passover is late this year because 2027 is a Hebrew leap year. The Passover quiz questions cover the story, the Seder plate and the traditions.
  • Earth Day, Thursday 22 April. The Earth Day quiz questions are mostly about climate, water and wildlife, and they slot into a science round too.
  • London Marathon, Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 April. For the first time it runs over two days, with a field of around 100,000. Our marathon quiz questions cover the history and the records.

May to August 2027

  • US Mother's Day, Sunday 9 May. Same Mother's Day questions, second outing.
  • Expo 2027 Belgrade, 15 May to 15 August. A smaller, specialised expo themed around sport and music. The World Expo quiz questions cover the Eiffel Tower, the Ferris wheel and the other things expos left behind.

Summer is the quietest stretch for themed nights. Beer gardens beat back rooms, and a lot of regulars are away. If you need a hook, the next Summer Olympics is a year away (Los Angeles, July 2028), which gives you a "one year to go" angle in July.

September and October 2027

  • Oktoberfest, Saturday 18 September to Sunday 3 October. The official dates are confirmed for Munich, and plenty of pubs run their own version over one of the weekends. Here are Oktoberfest quiz questions to go with the steins.
  • Autumn equinox, Thursday 23 September. The autumn quiz questions cover harvest folklore, falling leaves and the Harvest Moon.
  • Diwali, Friday 29 October. Ten days earlier than in 2026. The festival runs from 27 to 31 October, so it overlaps Halloween weekend this time.
  • Halloween, Sunday 31 October. A Sunday Halloween means the parties happen on the Friday and Saturday before, so plan your quiz for one of those. Use the Halloween quiz questions for traditions and history, and the horror film quiz questions for a film round.

November and December 2027

  • Bonfire Night, Friday 5 November. A Friday this year, so expect competition from actual fireworks displays. The Bonfire Night quiz questions work well as a short round before people head out.
  • Thanksgiving, Thursday 25 November. The Thanksgiving trivia questions work again.
  • Christmas, Saturday 25 December. Christmas Day is a Saturday, so most work parties will land in the week of 13 December. The Christmas rounds listed at the top of this page all work again.
  • New Year's Eve, Friday 31 December. The New Year's Eve questions again.

Three big tournaments come round every few years, and each one is worth a dedicated night when it does:

Planning a themed night around these dates

Pick the night before, not the day itself. Christmas, Halloween and New Year's Eve all have their own plans attached. The quiz does better as the warm-up than as the competition.

Watch for clashes. In 2027 the Super Bowl lands on Valentine's Day and the Oscars land on Selection Sunday. If your crowd skews one way, pick that theme and say so on the poster rather than trying to do both.

Keep moveable dates moveable. Ramadan and Eid depend on the moon sighting, and Diwali and Holi can shift by a day depending on the calendar people follow. If the event is for a particular community, ask someone in it to confirm the date before you print anything.

One themed round is often enough. A full themed quiz works for Christmas. For most of the dates above, one round of ten in an otherwise normal quiz keeps regulars happy and still gives you something to promote. When you've picked your rounds, the quiz creator will put the slides and answer sheets together.

Frequently asked questions

Easter Sunday is 28 March 2027, which makes Good Friday 26 March and Mothering Sunday in the UK 7 March.
Super Bowl LXI is on Sunday 14 February, the same day as Valentine's Day. The 99th Oscars and March Madness Selection Sunday are both on Sunday 14 March. Diwali (29 October) also falls two days before Halloween.
Two to three weeks is enough for most dates, which gives you time to put posters up and tell regulars. Christmas is the exception: work parties book early, so start in November.
